IHG
A single-page infographic, Our presence in the European Union: putting IHG's EU footprint into one view: 579 hotels across 22 member states, inside a global estate of more than 4,900.
Creative response
One page, dated August 2015, titled “Our presence in the European Union”. It sets IHG's European Union footprint inside the group's global scale, and does it in a single view.
The global frame it establishes: more than 4,900 hotels, 724,000 guest rooms, operations in around 100 countries, and a pipeline of roughly 1,300 further hotels. Against that, the EU-specific numbers: 579 hotels across 22 EU member states, with a further 78 in the pipeline.
The infographic also records that more than 350,000 people work across IHG-brand hotels, and identifies IHG as a FTSE 100 company with its global headquarters in the UK.
Infographic production, turning a set of corporate and territorial statistics into a single readable page. The data is IHG's; the visual argument it makes is the design work.
Why the numbers are arranged that way
The structure of the page is doing something specific. It states global scale first, then narrows to the EU, then states UK headquarters and FTSE 100 listing. That sequence makes one point: a British-headquartered global company with a large and growing physical presence across the single market.
That reading is a reading. The artefact does not state its audience or its purpose, and this page will not invent one for it.
