Objective

A studio's Christmas card is a piece of self-promotion disguised as a greeting, sent to exactly the people it wants to be hired by. It has about twenty seconds of goodwill before it is closed.

Christmas music is also the most exhausted brief in the calendar. Anything that sounds like stock festive music is heard as stock festive music, and the card becomes another one in the inbox.

Creative response

Music composition and foley, produced through Kumo Project for The Shed Creative Studios in Gateshead. The melody brings a modern feel to traditional children's lullabies: familiar enough to read instantly as Christmas, written rather than borrowed, so it belongs to the card and not to the season.

The foley is what makes the animation feel handled rather than drawn.
