Objective

The Cheque & Credit Clearing Company runs the UK's cheque clearing system. In 2016 that system changed: cheque imaging replaced the physical movement of paper, cutting clearing from six working days to one.

A change of that kind is invisible until it goes wrong. Every bank, every business and every charity that handled cheques needed to understand what was changing, when, and what it meant for them, without anyone having to care about clearing infrastructure.

Creative response

The engagement covered the organisation's own identity as well as its public-facing explanatory material.

  • A full visual identity system. The C&CCC Visual Identity Guidelines, September 2015: a complete brand manual covering basic elements, style, publications and external material, PowerPoint, website, social media and stationery
  • Cheque Imaging Explained. Separate customer and staff A5 leaflets, taken through twelve dated revisions between February and August 2016 before print
  • Faster Cheques branding. Identity work for the scheme itself, alongside the Faster Cheque Payment logo development
  • An office rebrand and a website redesign. The identity applied to the physical space and the primary channel
  • Annual review and annual report. Including a timeline infographic and payment-statistics graphics
  • A campaign layer. Pop-up banners, fact sheets for agency banks, SMEs and charities, fraud-prevention material, a newspaper comic strip, Cheque User Forum materials and a Christmas pop-up
  • Digital and social. A YouTube channel with analytics reporting, Twitter assets, email banners, Prezi and PowerPoint templates

30,000+views on the explainer video

The identity guidelines are the artefact that proves the scope: a document covering stationery through to social media is commissioned when an organisation wants one coherent system, not a series of jobs.

Press coverage collages survive for June 2014 and May 2015, and the YouTube channel carried its own analytics reporting, including a video titled How Cheques Clear.
