Objective

The film promotes animation workshops for children, and it is made of a montage of the films the children themselves made at Glasgow Science Centre. The material is charming and completely uneven: different styles, different lengths, different levels of finish, because that is what a workshop produces.

The audio had to hold that together without patronising it. Score it too slickly and the children's work looks amateur by comparison; score it too loosely and there is no film.

Creative response

Simple music composition with effects added in post to footage captured during the workshops. Simple is the operative decision: a light, uncomplicated score under the montage leaves the children's animation as the thing being looked at, and the effects tie shots together across cuts that have nothing else in common.
